Remember How to Dream

Recently, on a business Zoom call, our Marketing Leader, Rory Ricord, posed a question to us–He asked us What is Your Why? In other words, why did you start doing this and what keeps you going? As another member of leadership elaborated…your Why is something that is so important, that if someone told you that you couldn’t have it, it would make you cry. The point was, if you don’t have a strong motivation, a very important goal, you won’t stick with it and won’t keep striving to make that happen. After the meeting, I thought about this a lot. Someone once defined dreams as goals without action, and goals as dreams with actions completed to make them come true. And I realized, in order to set worthy goals, you have to remember how to dream!

Dreaming is something that is sometimes accidently ‘trained out of us as kids.’ Kids are wonderful dreamers! Parents, wanting what is best for their kids, sometimes try to keep them rooted in reality. Therefore, they discourage this trait. If someone hears ‘no, you can’t do that’ enough times, especially by a parent, they start to believe it! So, as adults, we need to go back and Remember how to dream!!!

I started working with this marketing group originally to have a fall back if my company downsized again. But I quickly realized that if I could make it successful, I would have the freedom to pursue some of my old, cherished dreams. I have been working at it for a couple of years now, and while I can’t yet declare success, I have started remembering how to dream. And I have a much better idea of what actions to take to turn those dreams into goals. And goals into reality.

So, what is my ‘Why,’ you ask?

Great question! Even as a kid, one of my favorite dreams was to be able to grow up and be successful, and support my family as they grew older. To have a place to take care of my parents when they are no longer able to care for themselves. I will NOT put them in a nursing home!! I would like to be able to give them some of the things they didn’t have as children, and make some of their dreams come true. It might be simple thing to some, but that is my ‘Why.’

I have been able to start in some small measure thanks to all the great things offered through this marketing group. There is a bridge program that I was lucky enough to qualify for that offers $750 a month to help build your business. Each month I have taken $200 of that and hired my mom to write and place ads for me. She has been unemployed for several years due to her company downsizing, and this is helping me get my ads out, but also giving her a little extra to help ends meet.

In September, when one of our other great offers has their Labor Day event for Grand Cru members of Wine Ambassador, I am driving across country from North Carolina to attend, and I am taking her with me for the road trip.

She loves to travel as much as I do, and even if she does not attend the Winery event, she will be perfectly happy to take the car and do day trips around Napa and Sonoma Valley. With life the way it is, you never know when it might be the last chance for an extended road trip, but I have plenty of dreams of other trips to keep me going!!

In fact, the week after I get back, yet another Anchor in our group has an event in Orlando that I will be driving to. So, through this group, I have gotten to a place where I can take most of the month of September off from my JOB to travel…a taste of freedom that inspires me to work even harder to find the missing puzzle pieces to make this a successful career and ditch the JOB, lol!

If you are also looking for ways to turn your dreams into Goals, and Goals into reality, then I invite you to start with Wine Ambassador. Check out the opportunity below and reach out to me for any more questions or help getting started!
