A Banking App for Real People

So, Have you met Dave? I only ask, because he’s a real cool guy. Ok, so Actually, DAVE is a banking app on your phone. If you have the Google Play store, you can download DAVE and borrow small payday loans from him if you get into a tight spot.

Which I have. Sometimes, times get tight and you don’t want to bother your friends, or they are not available. Or are just as broke as you are.

So what do you do? That is where Dave can help. You pay $1 a month and you can borrow up to $100 until payday. You do have to link up your checking account, but Dave can send you alerts, help you budget, and avoid overdrafts. He also Plants trees based on what you pay him back, so it is a win-win.

When you borrow, you decide how much you are going to pay as a “tip.” I generally do $9, but I have done more and less. Either way, some of the money goes to planting trees, which is a really cool thing. How many trees, you ask? Well, if I borrow $100 and “tip” ten percent, that would be ten trees, as he plants a tree for every percent.

This app was started to help people avoid overdraft fees, and in 2017 won an award by JP Morgan Chase, The Financial Solutions Lab. There is also a bank in the works, which I put myself on the waiting list to join.

Now, if you need some extra money, and don’t want to have to pay it back, Dave also can help you find work.

He calls them side hustles, and there is no extra charge for this service either. Guess he figures if he keeps you working, you can keep borrowing and paying back.

But anyway you look at it, $1 a month plus whatever you decide to pay for “tip” on payday, is much cheaper than an overdraft fee and possibly a returned check charge from the person you paid!

Download the app on Google Play, and use this invite code:

If you are wondering what I get if you click the link and try it? I get my $1 fee waived for a month. You can give out your own code and do the same thing, too. But regardless of that, I have used it several times and the money is there immediately, and I have had no problems with the wrong amount being debited, either.

I will say, though, I am sure you don’t want to live just paycheck to paycheck and have to continue to borrow. No one does. If you are looking for ideas to improve your financial situation, check out Blogging with Rory.
