Last night I was looking for things that would be natural blood thinners. Those of you that know me are familiar with the fact that I like natural remedies. It was sure a pleasant surprise to find that red wine was on that list! It was not the only thing I learned about blood thinners last night, either. For example, Coumadin is a lab version of Coumarin (one letter different), which is the thing in cinnamon that make it a good blood thinner as well! So, for sure, you need to make sure you are not using too much of either, especially if you are already on a blood thinner, but good to know if you are not, but, say, have been sitting too much lately (like when travelling) and want to be proactive in preventing blood clots.
One more reason I am so glad for my Wine of the Month Club!! I would much rather sip a glass of quality red wine that pop a pill any day of the week!
Another one that is a great blood thinner is ginger. So as a caution, you are not going to use this before surgery. Just saying! For some other great uses of ginger, check out my page on it!
