I read a quote recently that said it doesn’t take any more energy to plan than it does to dream. Or words to that effect. And it got me thinking. It is true. When we take action on our dreams, it becomes a goal. And some of my mentors have been talking a lot lately about not only dreaming, but dreaming bigger. Not only broadening our understanding of what we deserve, but knowing how to ask for it–and then work like crazy to help make it happen!
You have to ask for what you want (your dreams), but you also have to believe you deserve them and are worth it. And Take Action on Them. So, my New Year’s Resolution, if you will, is to Dream Bigger!
I have worked hard all of my life, but I don’t know that I have ever asked for what I want. In fact, I think I have gone out of my way to NOT ask for things. It might be true that we are our own worst enemys!
So, you may have heard of affirmations, which are defined as things you say to yourself either outloud or silently. I looked it up and you might find https://www.everydayhealth.com/emotional-health/what-are-affirmations/ to be as interesting as I did. I did not know that affirmations can be negative, as well.
And realized that I have used plenty of negative ones most of my life! In fact, I, at 54, still think of things I did as a kid and tell myself “you are SUCH an idiot!” Prime example of negative affirmations, and not helpful at all. Positive affirmations need to replace the negatives, so that you can grow and go forward!
The trick is to change it up. So, instead of telling yourself you are an idiot, tell yourself you can/will learn from your mistakes. Make it a habit to tell yourself good things! If they are not true, yet, work to make them true!
No one is suggesting deluding yourself, for sure, but be positive and give yourself some grace while you learn to replace negativity with positivity! The internet is full of examples to get you started, if you can’t think of any, but here is what I have chosen for myself to start:
I have good ideas.
I am a hard worker and I deserve success.
I will use my success to help my family and help others succeed.
I have the capacity to change my future.
In addition to positive affirmations, we need to have the courage to ask for what we want. Religious teaching tells us this. Pray and petition God for what we want. My mentors suggest that we do this with specifics in mind. And again, ask for it, and then work like heck to help make it happen. Because, yes, with God, all things are possible.
So, my asks are these: Please:
Let me succeed in my business with enough money to cover any needs that arise, so that I can use my succcess to support my family and start a homeless shelter for single parents and their children. I am not afraid to work hard, but Please show me how to Work SMART so that I do not have to say no when others need help!
Let me complete the payoff of my current house and find a suitable property with a larger home and barns for horses that I could run an equine therapy center from. I owe less than Five Thousand Dollars, Thank You, Lord, that is a HUGE burden that will be gone in JULY of this year!!!
Let me have enough abundance that I can call my time my own and work on my schedule. Time and financial freedom to travel and explore, and introduce others to the experience. And if I can only ever take one more international trip, let me be able to do a horseback tour of as many countries as possible. Starting with Ireland, to be specific. I will try not to interrupt the gentleman at the men’s nude beach again, I promise. It was an accident.
