I cannot tell a lie. These new mesh scrubbers I found are expensive. At least, they are if you just look at the price tag. But, if you factor in that they can replace loofahs, cloths, and all other body scrubbers out there, the price looks more reasonable. If you then factor in that you don’t need exfoliating scrubs, which are very pricey unless you make your own, the savings actually start to add up!
They were designed based on scrubbers the founder of the company used everyday growing up in South Africa. As I understand it, her husband was completely enthralled with the smooth perfection of her skin. When he found out what she used, he encouraged her to go into business with him and market them! And a business was born!
Another benefit? These dry very fast, and are machine washable. They also hold their color and last longer than other body scrubbers I have seen! Did I mention that they have a sale on? The pack of six makes the most sense, as it further defrays the cost–and it is never too early to be socking away stocking stuffers!!
Reducing waste, by reducing the number of products you consume is good for your purse and your environment. And if you would like to make your own body washes, I have a very good simple recipe for you!
The first ingredient for this DIY Body wash to use with your new Body Scrubber is:
Dr. Bonner’s Castille Soap. You can get scented, like peppermint, or you can get plain and leave it unscented, or use essential oils to customize it to your preferences. I use Plant Therapy Essential oils as they are pure, organic and even safe to cook with.
You also need Honey. Raw honey is more nourishing to your body, and is naturally antimicrobial.
The third necessary ingredient is a healthy oil, like fractionated coconut oil.
Mix them in equal ratios. I suggest small batches till you know what you like. So a 4th cup of each. This will have a mild honey scent just as is.
If you want to use more scents, make sure you use organic essential oils.
They should say therapeutic grade or food grade and 100% pure. The ones you see at big chain stores are very often adulterated with additives, so I get mine here. If you are new to essential oils, getting a mixed pack lets you try several different scents. However, you can buy individual bottles as well. Please be mindful that they are super concentrated and can burn your skin if you don’t dilute them first in some type of carrier oil, such as the fractionated coconut oil or sweet almond oil, olive oil, etcetera. I have seen bath wash recipes that call for up to 60 drops. I say go light and increase if needed. So for this size batch, I would start with ten.
Mix your essential oils with your Fractionated coconut oil, then mix the other two ingredients. No worries, the honey will not be sticky mixed with the other items!
NOTE: Essential Oils are awesome, but respect their strength. Never ingest them without being diluted in oil. And a little goes a long way. If you are using Orange essential oil in a cake, for example, one or two drops may be sufficient. I tried to make peppermint mocha coffee last Christmas and trust me when I say…less is more!! If you would like to learn about them from an expert, I invite you to check out Dr. Eric Zielinski’s Master Class. You can often catch it free!
Ok, so now, you have a great new body scrubber, and some luxurious body wash…sounds like time for a hot bath and a glass of cool wine to me!! If that sounds good to you, check out our Fine Wines and get set!
