Using Vitamins to fight Coronavirus?

Will Vitamins Help Me Fight the Wuhan Coronavirus?
Take some Vitamin C”

Most of us are used to hearing “Take some Vitamin C” when we complain of a cold or flu. And the truth is, Vitamin C does work!  Research has repeatedly shown that Vitamin C has strong antiviral action that can prevent or lessen illnesses caused by viruses. Including some coronaviruses.

It is well known that many respiratory illnesses, typically caused by viruses, can be treated or even totally prevented by taking large doses of Vitamin C.
The immune-supporting properties of vitamins and their role in keeping your body sound and healthy make a powerful argument for using Vitamin C and other vitamins to fight the Wuhan Coronavirus. Take on a daily basis.

But Which Vitamins?  And How Much?

A GreenMedInfo article quotes a news release by Orthomolecular Medicine News Service which says “The coronavirus pandemic can be dramatically slowed, or stopped, with the immediate widespread use of high doses of vitamin C.”  (OMNS January 26, 2020)

GreenMedInfo additionally quotes the release by OMNS, as follows: “The physicians of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service and the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine urge a nutrient-based method to prevent or minimize symptoms for future viral infection.

The following supplemental levels are recommended for adults; for children reduce these in proportion to body weight:

  • Vitamin C: 3,000 milligrams (or more) daily, in divided doses.
  • Vitamin D3: 2,000 International Units daily. (Start with 5,000 IU/day for two weeks, then reduce to 2,000).
  • Magnesium: 400 mg daily (in citrate, malate, chelate, or chloride form).
  • Zinc: 20 mg daily selenium: 100 mcg (micrograms) daily.” A link to the article is provided here: Greenmedinfo.com.

I think this is a very inexpensive precaution to take, which will only help in the long run. Studies show most people are deficient in magnesium, for example. I read that there are over three hundred processes in our bodies that magnesium is essential for! So if someone is deficient in something that important to our body, how can they be expected to fight off illness?

The OMNS news release referenced extensive research conducted over several decades that have proven that Vitamin C, among other vitamins and minerals, can fight viruses similar to the Wuhan Coronavirus.

In fact, Vitamin C was studied during the Polio epidemic over a half-century ago and was proven to have efficacy against that virus, according to the article.
Whether taking vitamins prevents infection with the Wuhan coronavirus or simply lessens its severity, I think we can agree that when our body is healthier we are less likely to get an infection. And more likely to overcome the infection.

Daily vitamin doses have been recommended for years. Some of us already take them. If you have not but want to start, get good quality vitamins and supplements. So your body will be able to absorb them.

Have you ever used a functional medicine doctor? I would love to hear what you think about your experience! I have not.

But I like the idea of treating the whole body, instead of just symptoms. Which is another reason for exploring using vitamins to fight the Coronavirus.
